Our island, Our future
In an age of greater awareness of the negative impact pollution has on our planet, tourism is one of the main culprits: transportation, over-development and depletion of natural resources help to make sure it is not an environmentally-friendly industry. Skopelos relies on tourism and is faced with these issues -- while attempting to maintain its own cultural heritage and a clean living environment. Madro Travel has a policy of raising the awareness of holiday makers to things they can do here on Skopelos which can make a ‘real’, and positive, difference to the destination and the people living here. As an agency, we wish to actively encourage discussion on and participation in sustainable activities on Skopelos. Madro Travel aims to promote "sustainable tourism." (nature and wildlife activities), ecotourism (promoting yet protecting natural areas from mass-tourism and development), and agrotourism (educational holidays in agriculture and culture to sustain rural population). In these ways, tour operators, local businesses and visitors alike can genuinely appreciate and respect the culture and natural landscape of our island. A holiday spent exploring the countryside and villages, learning about the production of local cuisine and crafts can be a refreshing and rewarding break from city life. The informed traveller can also be directly contributing to the sustainable tourism effort by supporting the communities working to preserve their local traditions. Remember, if we all work together, our message will reach more people, change more minds, and touch more hearts.

Cruise the ' MAMMA MIA! ' way!

Join us on a cruise on board the Odyssey boat and  visit some of the MAMMA MIA! movie locations. See  some of the most beautiful areas of Skopelos immortalized in the film shot on the island in Sept 2007. Universal Pictures and Play Tone Productions scoured the Mediterranean area before settling on the island of Skopelos, with its lovely coastline.

The tour visits

Amarandos and Agnontas

Amarandos was known to the production team as ‘the 3 trees’ location. It was here that the scenes  of  Sophie reading her mother’s diary and the  picnic with her 3 potential fathers were shot.  The amazing formation of the marble made peninsula and just those 3 trees in the middle of the sea…exquisite!

Milia and Kastani beaches

Milia was the  base where the most valuable and important equipment and vehicles were placed. The  beach was the breakfast meeting point of nearly 230 crew members on location.

Kastani Beach  was beloved by almost everyone -including the family of Pierce Brosnan. This is a fantastic beach chosen for its tranquility and serene beauty. It has everything, apart from  no electricity, no running water, no beach bar and no organized activities. Perfect!

A jetty and Donna’s bar were built (and taken away afterwards) and the songs “Does your mother know  you are out” and ‘Lay all your love on me’ were  filmed here.

The Chapel of Ag.Ioannis.

Last but not least we are heading to the north and east part of Skopelos (weather permitting) to see the Mamma Mia! Church. Our small boat will take you to the shore, then  your climb up the steps can start in order to admire the view, visit the chapel and take photos of the most popular site on the island. The movie shooting took place over 4 days, and the chapel in the film was not the real one, as you will realize when you see it!

Lunch  is included and will be served on board.
