This comfortable house with swimming pool was built recently, but incorporates traditional features. It is located in an extremely peaceful position, amid olive groves just 2.5 kilometres from Skopelos town.

The approach to the house is by a concrete drive, with a dressed stone wall and night lighting on the right. Parking is to the left.

The house is built on a large slate patio on two levels. To the right of the front door is a fully equipped covered barbeque area with flower beds, table and chairs. The patio extends around the house and has views over the valley.

On the left is a raised flower border with steps leading down to a lower terrace with swimming pool. Here there are four sun-beds and sun umbrella.

The house is built on two levels and has cool floor tiles throughout. The main door opens into the spacious open plan living room-kitchen. The living room area has twin sofa seating along with two easy chairs and a coffee table and  a traditional corner fireplace. A wall unit holds a satellite TV, DVD player and CD.  Patio doors lead to the side terrace, where there is a garden table and chairs.

Opposite the patio doors is the dining area, with a large table for six  and staircase up to the right.

Through an arch way from the living room, the kitchen is completely equipped, with electric oven and built in hob, fridge-freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and comprehensive small appliances such as kettle,  coffee percolator, and toaster. There is an iron and ironing board.

To the right of the kitchen is a fully-tiled shower room and WC.

Upstairs, in the hallway to the left is a range of built in wardrobes, cupboards and drawers, and off this on the right are the two bedrooms, one with double bed, and the other with twin beds. Both bedrooms open onto a large balcony with directors’ chairs to sit and enjoy the view. Also off the hallway is the fully tiled modern bathroom which has WC and full sized bath.

This is very comfortable and well-equipped house, decorated and furnished to a very high standard.

It is a traditional styled home of 3 stories with a small paved garden, in which is  a shower for taking quick baths when returning from the beach. The house has wooden floors and traditionally beamed ceilings. It is extremely well presented.

The 39 Steps is an old island stone house, which has been converted into three comfortable apartments with modern facilities, whilst respecting and preserving the original character, typical of the island architecture.  Each apartment occupies a whole floor and has its own private entrance and an outdoor seating area. From the shared attractive courtyard your apartment has an entrance into its living area and private facilities.

The large courtyard surrounded by high stone walls is shaded by vines and other greenery. This is flanked on one side by ‘the stone cottage’, which houses the office and the utilities of the 39steps, which includes a small, fully equipped kitchen (additional to the private kitchens of each unit) for your use when sharing the common area with other guests.

You can enjoy here the company of old or newly- met friends and are not having to go to the trouble of carrying crockery or other utensils up and down the stone stairway.

The accommodation, in its setting, appeals to individuals and group of friends, who enjoy being close to the Hubble typically evoked by tourism, but who like to be able to step back from this and enjoy the serenity of quiet evenings in traditional settings of time which seems to have vanished.

*The 39steps chooses to have an ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY box fan cooling method, rather than install an air conditioning system, which is harmful both to the environment and in the long term to the health of some persons. The stone walls of the 39steps (60 cm minimum and thicker in the lower regions of the building) keep the building cool in its natural state.

Outdoors

The house is surrounded by high stone walls, which conceal an attractive courtyard shaded by a great vine and other mostly endemic vegetation.  Each apartment has the benefit of its own private outdoor seating space and in addition the two top apartments have the easy access to a common area of the spacious, shaded courtyard,   with views of the harbour, the Kastro, or the attractive buildings with their beautiful chestnut wood balconies, and red or slate rooftops of the village.

Meals and other socialising events can take place at the large table under the vine. In the stone cottage, which houses the utilities of the 39steps the fully equipped kitchen is there for your use.  The studio has the benefit of being completely separate. It has its own entrance into the lower, private section of the court yard with its outdoor kitchen to take meals at the table.

Built on three storeys, entry is via a tiny forecourt onto the street, with built-in stone seating and room for a small table, two more chairs and a sun umbrella. A bougainvillea shades the doorway on the right.

The front door leads directly into the small traditional kitchen on the left, with its open shelves, marble sink, mini cooker and fridge. To the right is a small dining area with traditional built-in seating on three sides of the table.

Opposite the staircase, which has built in storage for ironing board, drying rack and cleaning materials, is a small shower room with marble tiling throughout.

Wooden stairs lead to a half landing with old captain’s trunk and window above, off which is  a small sitting room with built in sofa beds and two windows, overlooking town roofs and with a partial view of the sea. To the left of the landing is another exit to the side street and a private yard opposite.

Up again is the top floor of the house. This comprises a really light and spacious bedroom, with open beamed wooden ceiling and wooden floors. It has a traditional fireplace and French windows on one side of the room opening  onto a street facing balcony overlooking the harbour and Mount Palouki beyond. There is a double bed (having under-bed storage), small built-in wardrobe, small chest of drawers and two windows looking across to the island of Alonissos.

The apartments have been well-designed and take the form of two separate houses, both of which have the lovely and traditional grey Pelion roof slates. They are surrounded by very nicely landscaped gardens with olive, pine and cypress trees, some lawned areas, geraniums, and bougainvilleas etc.

All the apartments have their own large terrace with sun and shade, and with gorgeous views across the sea to Alonissos.

Furnished to an extremely high and stylish standard, the apartments are kept in immaculate condition with daily maid service .

In the topmost house there are two studio apartments on the ground floor. Both studio apartments have terracotta floors; a sleeping area - one with double wrought iron bed and the other with two twin wrought iron beds; TV; air conditioning; and fully equipped kitchens with mini ovens and fridge freezers, cafetieres etc.

One studio has a bathroom with shower and WC and the other has a bathroom with bath and WC.

The lower house comprises two maisonettes which have a connecting door, so can be used for families or bigger parties.

Entrance is into the living room/kitchen area which has a single wrought iron bed/couch which can sleep a third person, and which has air conditioning and TV. The kitchen area has handmade wooden units, and is fully equipped with mini-oven, fridge-freezer, and cafetiere.

Off the living room area is the bathroom which is fully tiled and which has a shower and WC.

A flight of wooden steps lead up to the mezzanine sleeping area with built in double bed, wooden floors and exposed beam ceiling. Both maisonettes have their own terrace and garden area.

On the lower floor of the building is a studio apartment which is much more spacious than the other two studios, and which can sleep up to 3 people. It has a curtained off bedroom area with carved wooden bed, a living area with wrought iron bed/sofa, and TV, and a fully equipped kitchen with corner fireplace, dining table and chairs, full oven etc. Off this is a dressing area with built in wardrobe and the bathroom with bath and WC.

This is fantastic accommodation for couples and families, combining a high standard of comfort, style, and views, with a tranquil location close by to town.

In the maisonettes and lower studio, where there is a third bed, children aged 12 and below stay for free.

Stolios - 2010

One of its best features is its wonderful, large swimming pool, with a children's swimming area, and a swim-up pool bar. There is plenty of space around the pool to soak up the sun, or sit and enjoy a cool drink.

The actual studios and apartments are located amid olive groves behind the reception building and pool area, and are set well back from the road. They are all very spacious, and have air conditioning, radio and telephone, and their own terrace or balcony.

The studios are open plan with sleeping-living area, kitchenette, and bathroom with shower and WC.

The apartments have a twin bedroom, and a huge open plan living-dining room, with two comfortable sofa beds. They also have a kitchenette equipped for the preparation of simple meals.

There is a minimarket on site for essentials.

Should you tire of self catering, the complex has its own taverna, and a courtesy minibus makes regular trips into town, so you can easily sample the waterfront's tavernas and restaurants.
