Madro Travel Skopelos intends to use this section of our website as a bulletin board for what is happening on Skopelos throughout the year. We will mainly focus on the ways in which tradition and culture shape the lives of the people of Skopelos, but we hope to create an archive of material which will feature local products, recipes, craftsmen and artists. This will be built up on a month by month basis and will complement our calendar pictures.
Most of the Greek customs and traditions still present in the 21st century stem from the Greek Orthodox religion. Obviously, Easter, marriages and funerals all revolve around the Greek Orthodox Church. Other traditions or superstitions involve a mixture of the Ancient Greek ways and those of the Orthodox Church.
The following is an accumulation of some of the most significant and important rituals and customs that are still followed avidly today. We hope this new addition to the Madro Travel Skopelos website proves to be interesting and informative!
