June brings tulips, lillies, roses,
Fills the children's hands with posies.
June is the sixth month of the current Gregorian calendar and the first month of summer. It is a time when the children of Skopelos rejoice as their long summer vacation from school begins.
Originally dedicated to the Goddess Hera, patron of the female sex, and sacred to all gods and goddesses who preside over love, passion, and beauty, this month is considered an excellent month for marriages.

June 21st is the day to celebrate the summer solstice. It is the moment at which the sun is in the highest place, the longest day of the year and the shortest night.
On 24th June, the Nativity of St John the Baptist- one of the oldest festivals of the Christian church - comes three months after the celebration on March 25 of the Annunciation, when the Archangel Gabriel told Mary that her cousin Elizabeth was in her sixth month of pregnancy, and six months before the Christmas celebration of the birth of Jesus. It is a day of rest and, like Christmas, is celebrated with three Masses: a vigil, at dawn, and at midday.
