For a legal wedding that will also be accepted in your home country, the following documents are necessary.
- Full birth certificates of both parties
The couple is obligated to obtain full versions of documents in A4; no shorter version will be accepted. Both parents’ full names are required. - Certificate of non-impediment to marry for both parties
This document confirms that you have not been married and are free to marry. It is available from your local registrar and must be issued within three months of your wedding date. - Decree absolute
Divorce papers (translated and certified) for those who are divorced. - Spouse’s death certificate and previous marriage certificate
If you are widowed, you are obliged to provide this certificate. - Deed poll certificate or Statutory declaration
If you have changed your name in the past, you need a copy of the deed poll. Please note, this includes divorcees who have reverted to their maiden name. - Copies of both passports
We also require photocopies of inside and identity information page from both parties, certified by a lawyer. - Adoption certificate
In the case of adoption of one or both parties, this certificate must be presented. - Witnesses
Two witnesses must be present, with their ID cards or passports.
Please note:
All documents must be translated and certified with the ‘Apostille’ stamp in the Greek Embassy/Consulate in your own country. The ‘Haager Apostille’ certifies the copy as a legal document.
Please send your documents by fax or email for review 6 weeks before your wedding - we have to confirm that your paperwork is in order.
We will submit a mutual application at the town hall and the date and time of the wedding can be arranged.
You must bring the original copies of all documentation with you.
Without the necessary documents, there cannot be a wedding!
